Tax Technology People - Movers & Shakers

The Financial Times has recently appointed Roisin Nolan as their new Global Indirect Tax Systems Manager, based in London. Roisin joins the group from Ernst & Young, where she was a Manager in the Indirect Tax Accounting Risk and Advisory Services team (iTaras) team 

Ryan Tax Services in the UK has recently recruited Joanna Hansell as a Senior Consultant in their tax technology team. Joanna joins from Xerox, where her role was Assistant Manager – Indirect Tax Eastern Hemisphere. Joanna had previously trained in VAT with Grant Thornton.

Philip Sproston has recently been promoted to Portfolio Program Manager within Ernst & Young’s EMEIA Tax IT Service Delivery team, based in London.

Major FTSE 100 group has devised a key tax systems and process role within its group tax function.  Dedicated to the tax compliance and reporting requirements in the group, this role will be focused on the improvement of technology systems for tax compliance and process within the EMEA region and taking a lead on the devising of new tax systems.
Key scope of the role includes:
  • Leading a team to act as a specialist tax technology conduit between the Tax function and IT in developing of group tax system capabilities
  • Develop key relationships across the group to assist with the overall financial systems profile, and championing tax within that
  • Work on specific system initiatives relating to compliance, accounting and workflow
This role is searching for an astute and professionally qualified leader – most likely ACA or CTA qualified background – having now developed deep experience on direct tax and/or indirect tax process affecting a large multinational group.  Financial / statutory reporting experience will also be valuable.  You will also have good knowledge of the tax software market, use of tax databases, and preferably knowledge of the SAP environment which encompasses tax data.
In addition, you will have strong people management experience as this is managing team spread across different locations.

Our client is a top ranked software solutions provider in the finance software sector, operating in North America and across the EMEA region.  They offer a range of solutions to the corporate market for financial reporting and consolidation, as well as a high specification tax reporting solution.
  • To be a senior level consultant to new and existing clients within the EMEA region looking to acquire the tax accounting solution; working closely with sales and pre-sales colleagues
  • Lead role on client proposals, including discussions and negotiations on pricing structures
  • Translate customer’s strategic goals and business needs into a mutually agreeable consulting engagement via scoping process
  • Provide general management and professional development leadership to Client Services staff
  • To manage the client services team, and directing the team on key client implementations projects
  • Understand project status and facilitate achievement of project objectives and priorities
  • Closely manage project budget and customer invoicing to insure alignment, and manage the project change control process as appropriate.
  • To act as a senior level account manager on active client engagements, and handling of escalated issues from the client service team, or raised directly by the client
  • Close liaison with partners and alliances within the tax accounting solutions market, and further development of these partnerships
  • Lead role on the market positioning of the product, working closely with sales and marketing colleagues in the UK and US.
  • To conduct customer satisfaction reviews with a view to feeding back to product development
  • To further develop existing client relationships
  • Attending key conferences (internal and external) throughout the year


Based in the UK, the EMEA operation is now looking to make a Director level hire.  Reporting to the EMEA Head, and with close liaison with senior US and UK management, this role is responsible for the successful delivery of the tax reporting solution to multinational clients.
Key accountabilities:
It is envisaged that suitable candidates will already be operating at an experienced level within the tax accounting technology/software market (equivalent to Director grade of a Big 4 consulting firm or equivalent), ideally based in the UK.  Candidates will be able to demonstrate experience of acting in a lead / project management role on large corporate tax software implementations, and will have integral knowledge of IT platforms and systems used in the sector.
In addition, strong business development skills will be required, together with excellent client handling and relationship skills with senior executives (finance, IT, tax, procurement) within large corporate groups.

Tax Technology People - LinkedIn Group

Just to make people aware that there is a growing tax technology Group on LinkedIn called Tax Technology People.  Talentpool Selection, our recruitment side in the tax technology market in the UK set up this group in 2008, and it's membership has grown to a 1250 (at the last count), the vast majority being those who are working in or very connected with the tax technology sector.

There are now a number of people in the group contributing on regular discussions on various topics on use of tax technology and other related issues.
