Great new opportunity - VAT Systems Manager role, London

Friday, 9 May 2014

Leading and expanding business systems and technology firm seeks a leadership VAT compliance / process / systems specialist to lead a team on client delivery projects, delivering VAT software solutions to large-end multinationals:

VAT Systems Implementations Manager
London | £60,000 - £75,000 + Bonus + Bens

Our client is a specialised and truly international technology business, and with a substantial footprint in the tax field.  It is a highly successful operation with a long term history, and they now seek a forward thinking VAT / indirect tax specialist with strong IT / tax systems knowledge and experience to take a lead client facing Manager role.  Leading a team of three Consultants, this role will be based in London with some travel when required, although not extensive.

Key activities and responsibilities will be:
  • Providing a leadership consulting role with clients (multinational companies) on indirect tax systems projects, and managing the delivery of VAT compliance software solutions
  • Leading on project planning and deciding on outline and approach
  • Being a VAT subject matter expert to provide technical guidance on projects
  • Managing a small team of professionals on client services and support
  • Being responsible for project costs, financial budgets and resourcing of client projects
In order to match with the requirements of this role, you will have substantial experience to date in the VAT field, and ideally with experience within the Indirect Tax determination and VAT compliance and reporting areas.  You may have developed this experience within a Big 4 / consulting firm or operating within an in-house tax / VAT operations team in industry.  If in industry, you will be recognised as an indirect tax specialist within the company, being a large multinational / FTSE / European HQ group. VAT compliance and process experience gained within a shared services environment of a multinational group would be highly valuable.  It is a strong possibility you have a background in EU VAT compliance, now with additional experience of technologies and software for VAT / indirect tax compliance.  Also a knowledge and strong appreciation of how VAT data works within a SAP / Oracle system and use of Excel for data extraction would be a strong advantage to success in the role.

This is a role seeking a proactive and professional VAT based compliance / process specialist, and NOT requiring an IT programmer.  This is an excellent opportunity to progress a VAT technology career within a structured environment, and to have a high visibility leadership role within an international technology business.

For more information on this opportunity, please contact Simon Godley in confidence on 0870 46 056 46 or email at

Vertex Exchange Conference 2014

Tuesday, 6 May 2014

Simon Godley (owner of this blog) attended the recent annual Vertex Exchange Conference at the Waldorf Hilton in London on 29th April.

This 2-day conference is an excellent insight into recent developments from within the world of indirect tax systems, process and technology.  The organiser Vertex is a leading technology company, dedicated to providing integrated enterprise tax technology solutions to multinational clients.  Vertex is a US led business, and with a well established European operation based from London.

For each day there is a keynote speaker session, and several break-out sessions that cover many current tax technology topics, for example Managing Your Tax Data, The Role of a Tax Data Warehouse and Update on VAT Package 2015.

I attended the keynote session featuring Chris Sanger, Global Tax Policy Leader at EY.  Chris gave a highly informative and content-rich presentation, talking through the main features on the international landscape regarding tax policy set by many countries, current policy trends (post-recession) and key tax initiatives being set by the OECD, notably regarding BEPS.  An overriding message from this is the high and increasing levels of scrutiny coming from international tax authorities, the increase of tax audits, and the increasing tax data that will be demanded from tax authorities.  The onus is very clearly on organisations to have the most adequate tax data systems in place to best serve these demands, and so the growth and development of tax technology (particularly employed by global companies) is set to continue into the foreseeable future.
